What's New?

August 2005 Kelley Equestrian Products launched the brand new Seamless Blankets & Sheets to Retailers at the KOP Trade Show in Ft Washington, PA. Shop owners took great interest and began to sign up for the 2006 blanket program. Dealers wanting to carry Hug blankets should call 1-800-767-9914 for additional information.

May 2005 For those looking at a company's What's New page, we have been a disappointment for a while. Well, no news is good news in our case (although not very self-promoting). The owners of Kelley Equestrian Products are, in fact, the creators of the Hug Blanket design. They formed Hug Coverings, LLC for the purpose of licensing the design, assisting licensees in blanket start-up, and operating this website to keep a close relationship with customers using the blankets. Here is the good news....in addition, Kelley Equestrian Products will now produce several Hug Blankets for sale to the trade. Kelley Equestrian Products is the EXCLUSIVE licensee for PVC Mesh Hug Blankets.

June 17, 2004 E.F.I. Ltd of Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, U.K. becomes a new Licensee of Hug Coverings.

March 2004 It is a familiar story..domestic production is expensive. So, for the first time in three years, we have raised prices. We're sorry about this...but we're grateful for the customers that support U.S. Made Blankets!

Seamless November, 2003 We are jumping for joy over the new seamless Hug Blankets...and so is Willy! Customers have been asking for this European style design since the first Hugs were made available. Now that the design and test work is completed, they are in production. We did a few things differently from the contoured style blankets. We purposely left the back about 4-6 inches longer for additional rain protection and we added a bit more drop so that these blankets can be used over other Hug products.

September, 2003 We formally introduce the Quilted Sheet #780. Last year our Quilting company made an error in quilting our regular diamond quilt blankets. The quilting finished too light. We sold this hybrid blanket as "special" on the close-out page…and were astounded how many people really wanted it for various reasons.
Owners from Florida to California were thrilled to have something heavier than a sheet and lighter than a blanket. Makes sense. The temperature fluctuates from chilly to hot and what works? Evidently the Hug Quilted Sheet!!!

ABF December, 2002 OK, it's just a trailer sitting in front of a warehouse! But for us, it is a beautiful sight! After delays moving through the Port of Los Angeles, MANY Shires Blankets make it to the USA!

November, 2002 We have "Give Your Horse a Hug Contest " Winners! What a job, selecting the top 18 individuals who will receive either a blanket or an Activity Set. There were SO MANY cute photographs....and many creative ideas about how to hug a horse! As soon as we have received permission from the winners, we will publish the photos. Dover June, 2002 The Dover Catalog is a favorite and convenient shopping location for many people. We are pleased to announce that Dover Saddlery is now licensed to produce their own variety of Hug Closure blankets. The management at Dover has been enthusiastic and supportive of Hug blankets from their inception and we wish them every success with their new product!.

December 18, 2001 Hug Coverings announces today the availability of the Medium Weight Sympatex Blanket (#1550). This blanket is both beautiful and ideal for horses with full coats and/or horses that reside in moderate climates.

SympatexLogo November, 2001 We are launching our first waterproof breathable product. We selected internationally recognized Sympatex® membrane over coated fabrics because of it's durability and consistent performance for our customers.

The Hug Closure is so well suited for prolonged turn-out that the production of a waterproof breathable version is the single most important developement for us yet! We are elated about partnering our "innovative" design with the proven technologies of Sympatex.

Ambassador Cellucci & Rose September 5-9, 2001 Equi-Fair, Spruce Meadows, Canada. On Friday we were selected for the Spruce Meadows New & Innovative Product Award! On Saturday, the US Ambassador to Canada, Paul Celluci, former Governor of Massachusetts, stopped by to visit us! We enjoyed meeting and talking with him - and were extremely impressed with the attention we received.

The hospitality of the Spruce Meadows organizers and the help from the US Consul for Commercial Affairs made this a virtual vacation for us. Staying at the Shangarry Bed & Breakfast with fabulous breakfasts cinched it! But we were there to work and so we did. We met hundreds of people and had the opportunity to show them the design of blankets using the Hug Closure system.

We were pleasantly suprised by the "blanket knowledge" of the Canadians we talked to. They are challenged by both the climate and the length of time their horses must spend in blankets. They recognized immediately why the Hug design works so well. Thanks, Spruce Meadows visitors, for your enthusiasm and your orders!
